I remember living in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. My wife and I were walking along the Marina and stopping at the Nowhere Bar for a drink. They were showing the Lakers vs Jazz playoff game. A very young Kobie threw up 2 or 3 airballs and Lakers lost the game. I turned to Cindy and said, what guts that kid has, I like it. I said, I really think he might be really good. Not in my wildest dreams did I imagine what a great all time player he would turn out to be.

I've suffered as a child with Jerry, Elgin, and the Lakers losing to the Celtics. I rejoiced in the Championships of the 70s, 80s, 90s, and 2000s. I always remember that moment in Cabo.

Thanks Kobie for showing the failure early, with a lot of hard work, determination, tenacity, and dedication can lead to greatness.
